What are high-index lenses?
High-index lenses are made from materials that bend light more efficiently than standard 1.50 plastic lenses. This allows many stronger prescriptions to be produced with a thinner and often lighter lens profile.
Are 1.67 lenses thinner than 1.60 lenses?
Yes. For the same prescription and frame, a 1.67 high-index lens will usually be thinner than a 1.60 lens. The final result also depends on frame size, shape, pupil position and prescription.
When should I choose 1.74 lenses?
1.74 lenses are generally considered for stronger prescriptions where reducing thickness is a priority. They are not automatically the best choice for every prescription, so we check suitability against your selected frame.
Do smaller frames make prescription lenses thinner?
Often, yes. A smaller, well-centred frame can reduce the amount of lens material required, particularly for stronger prescriptions. Frame shape and your pupillary distance also affect the finished thickness.
