Varifocal Ordering Guide

How to Order Varifocals

Ordering varifocals online is slightly different from ordering single vision lenses, as the measurements need to be more precise to ensure comfortable vision.

That is why we ask you to choose your frame first, try it on, and then use the EyeMeasure app to help us position your varifocal lenses correctly.

At Burghley & Co, we exclusively use HOYA varifocal lenses, chosen for their clarity, precision and advanced optical design, so each pair feels more natural and comfortable in everyday wear.

Ideal for those who need help seeing clearly at distance, intermediate, and reading ranges in one pair of glasses.

Choose your frame

Select the frame you would like and place your order for the frame only.

If you already have your prescription, we recommend sending it at the time of ordering so we can confirm your chosen frame is suitable for varifocals.

02

Receive your frame and send us your measurements

Once your frame arrives, try it on and use the EyeMeasure app to take the measurements needed for your varifocals.

You will then send the measurements to us and return the frame, so we can glaze your lenses accurately.

This extra step helps ensure your varifocals are positioned correctly for your eyes and your chosen frame.

Using the EyeMeasure app

Once you have downloaded the app, simply hold your phone directly in front of your face, about a foot away. The app will automatically begin to scan your PD and guide you through the process.

You will then be advised that your results are ready to be viewed, including your near PD, distance PD, and fitting height.

Please send screenshots or photos of you wearing the frame with the measurements visible so we can position your varifocal lenses as accurately as possible.

Please send us:

  • A screenshot of your EyeMeasure results
  • A front-on photo of you wearing your chosen frame
  • Your prescription details, if you have not already sent them

Choose your varifocal lenses

We offer three HOYA varifocal lens options, all including anti-reflective coating, and we will help guide you towards the most suitable choice for your prescription and lifestyle.

All varifocal lenses have areas of blur at the edges. Higher tier lenses are designed to provide wider, more natural fields of vision and a more comfortable adaptation.

Each pair is assessed individually to ensure your HOYA varifocal lenses are positioned correctly for your prescription, frame and natural wearing position.

You can also choose additional options such as light-reactive lenses or thinner lenses, depending on your prescription and preferences.

Once we have your measurements, we will advise on the most suitable lenses for your prescription and lifestyle, confirm your lens choice with you, and issue a separate invoice for your varifocals.

Why lens payment is confirmed afterwards

We review your prescription, frame choice, and fitting measurements first so we can recommend the most suitable varifocal lenses before you pay. This helps avoid paying for lenses that may not be the right option for your final pair.

First time wearing varifocals?

It can take a few days to adjust to varifocal lenses, as your eyes learn to move naturally between different viewing zones. Most people adapt quickly, and we are here to guide you if needed.

We make your glasses and return them to you

Once we have received your measurements and frame back, we will fit your varifocal lenses and return your completed glasses to you.

What to expect

Frame delivery 2–4 working days
Return of frame 1–2 days
Varifocal glazing 4–5 days

Total turnaround: approximately 7–10 working days.

Why do we do it this way?

Varifocals need to be positioned with much greater accuracy than standard lenses. By asking you to try on your chosen frame first, we can help ensure a more precise and comfortable result.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to send my prescription now?

You can order your frame first and send your prescription later. However, if you already have your prescription, we recommend sending it at the time of ordering so we can confirm your chosen frame is suitable for varifocals.

Can I add light-reactive or thinner lenses?

Yes. We can discuss options such as light-reactive lenses and thinner lenses, depending on your prescription and preferences.

Why do I need to try the frame on first?

Because varifocal lenses need to be positioned accurately for your eyes and your chosen frame. Trying the frame on first helps us achieve a more precise and comfortable result.

Will it take time to get used to varifocals?

Most people adapt within a few days. We position your lenses carefully to make this as natural and comfortable as possible.

What if I have never ordered varifocals online before?

We guide you through each stage, from choosing a suitable frame to confirming the correct lens option and measurements before glazing.
