How photochromic (Transitions®) lenses work
Photochromic lenses react to ultraviolet (UV) light, gradually darkening outdoors before returning to a clear state indoors. They are ideal for people who regularly move between indoor and outdoor environments.

Transitions® is the best-known photochromic lens brand. Photochromic lenses automatically darken outdoors in UV light and return clear indoors.
Do photochromic lenses work in the car?
Most standard photochromic lenses only partially darken behind a car windscreen because it blocks much of the UV light needed to activate them.
Can I have photochromic varifocal lenses?
Yes. Photochromic lenses are available in single vision, bifocal and varifocal designs, depending on your prescription.
